Girl Empowerment Shoot

Monday, August 6, 2018

I like to do group shoots with other photographers whenever I get the chance. It gives me the opportunity to hang out with some cool people with similar interests, and also to do some shoots I might not otherwise normally do.  This time, Krissy from Krissy Bee Photography had gotten an idea to do a girls empowerment photo shoot. Krissy has such a big heart! She was so frustrated hearing about all the bullying going on and wanted to do something about it. Krissy hoped that by putting together this event, she might get the chance to show a special group of girls just how much they matter.  She even got life coach and anti-bullying advocate Marty Ward to come to the event and talk to the girls!

It sounded like something pretty special to me, so of course I signed up to help out. I have a daughter myself, just starting first grade, who fortunately has not yet had to deal much with bullying and self esteem issues, but I do worry about the future.  I want her to always know that she is a beautiful, strong, kind person; that she is important, no matter what anyone else might say to try to bring her down. And of course I also want her to know that it is so important to be kind to others, that we should raise each other up rather than tear each other down.

This was a fantastic group of girls. They were so much fun to photograph and hang out with. I do hope they all had a good time, and came out of this feeling more sure of themselves and ready to take on the new school year with confidence.

Big thanks to Krissy for putting this together! Be sure to check out her blog post on the event!

Also many thanks to Marty Ward, to the other photographers that participated, and of course the girls! I hope we can do this again. :)
