Day In The Life Photo Challenge

Wednesday, May 16, 2018

A few years ago, I did a Day In The Life photo challenge on my birthday, which pretty much means documenting my day from the moment I get up until I go to bed.  It's challenging trying to make interesting photos of mundane, everyday things.

I decided on a whim to go for it again recently, on my birthday again. I started out pretty good, but sometime in the afternoon it became pretty clear that my heart wasn't really in it. It started getting harder and harder to find things to take photos of...and then later I had a lot going on because of my birthday that I just kept forgetting to take photos, or went out and forgot my camera completely!  So not an overly successful challenge this time. There are many aspects of my daily life that I wanted to photograph for this challenge that I missed, like for example, my toddler crying and bringing me the boppy pillow when he needs a nap! Also, my daughter's bedtime routine...since I was going out to a movie, I actually had my husband put her to bed this time so I could try (unsuccessfully) to get the baby down for a nap before we left. In hindsight, this would probably be an easier challenge on day that isn't my birthday.

A lot of these are just snap shots, some are even cellphone pictures, and a couple were taken by my husband.  Not really a representation of my average day, but still, you get a little peek into my world I guess. I'll try again another day. :)

Wakey, wakey.

Rise and shine, Valentine!

Brushing teeth,

Noah sleeping in Ariel's bed, while she gets ready for school.

"Why am I awake? Why do you do this to me every morning??"
Off to school.
Back to bed, glorious bed!

"Ha, ha! Think again, mama. No back to bed today!"

Breakfast of champions.

Nom-nom.

Clean-up time.

Pets sunbathing next to me while I do some computer work. (Wow, dirty window.)

A couple of hours were spent like this, pinned under sleeping baby.

I guess she had a bad day.

Diapies.

Ariel drew me a picture for my birthday! I forgot to get a photo of the actual picture though, ha.

More Birthday goodies.

At Target! My home away from home lol.

Dinner at Sonny's!

Ariel watering her flowers.

Ice cream cake!

Enjoying some cake before bedtime.

"Where's my cake?"

Not much actual laundry folding happening here.
Ariel's rock dig she got from Target.
Ariel in bed, time for a movie! (We saw A Quiet Place.)

A little Daniel Tiger and birthday cake before bed.

52 Weeks - First 3 Months

Thursday, March 29, 2018

This year I decided to do a 52 Week Photo Project to try to help me out of my photography rut and keep me motivated.  I knew there was no way I would be able to keep up with a 365 (photo a day) challenge, but one photo a week is much more doable! I'm doing the Official Dogwood Photography 52 Week Photography Challenge. So far I've managed to get my photo in each week, even if sometimes its very last minute.

I just finished up the first 3 months, so it seemed like a good time to make a blog post to share what I've gotten so far, rather them bombard you with all 52 photos all at once at the end of the year haha.  Take a peek, let me know what you think! And check out the Official Dogwood Photography 52 Week Photography Challemge for the list and join in! You can start anytime.

Week 1 Vision: Look Ahead
Week 2 Composition: Color Harmony
Week 3 Technical: Full Manual
Week 4 Creative: A Quiet Moment
Week 5 Wildcard: Photographer's Choice
Week 6 Vision: Alternating Rhythm

Week 8 Technical: Zoom Burst
Week 9 Creative: Forsaken
Week 10 Vision: Selective Color

Auto Shop Shoot

Tuesday, November 15, 2016

Last month, some local photographers joined together for a shoot with some models at a local auto shop, Paul's Beachside Automotive. Pretty different for me, but it sounded like fun, plus I'm trying to meet new people here, so I decided to join them.

I felt pretty awkward at first, with everybody trying to take pictures all at once of models in the awesome antique car, and mostly just getting in each others way. But when I moved into the actual auto shop, I relaxed a bit and tried to just do my thing. I was pretty happy with the results. Maybe I should work with models more often! It's definitely nice to work with subjects that take direction and pose willingly...kids are adorable but they're not always willing subjects for modeling!

Here are my favorites from the shoot.

Styled Wedding

Thursday, May 26, 2016

I signed up to join a styled wedding photo shoot put together by Emily Santome Photography. Now I've never had any interest in shooting weddings before, but this seemed like it would be a neat experience to get to try out wedding photography without the pressure of shooting an actual wedding. I was super nervous!  I don't know what I was nervous about though, it ended up being a lot of fun and I came out with some great photos!

We drove out to the desert where Emily had set up a beautiful wedding table. I have to admit, it was pretty funny just seeing it out there in the middle of nowhere as we drove up!

Our models, Danielle and Drew, were absolutely fantastic. Danielle has modeled before, but Drew was new to this, and what a way to start, with six different cameras in your face for several hours! He must have been uncomfortable, but it sure didn't show. They were both naturals in front of the camera, and you can really see their love for each other.

Now here comes the photo share overload. I had a really difficult time narrowing down which photos to share!

Aren't they adorable? I wish them all the best.  Thanks again to Emily Santome for putting together this awesome shoot!

Thanks for looking!
